Through our Microbiome 360° platform, we perform shotgun metagenomic sequencing of stool samples to characterize the complete microbial ecosystem of the human gut. Bactera is one of the few commercial providers in Germany that analyses the gut microbiome using shotgun metagenomic sequencing. While most consumer tests still rely on cheap 16S sequencing, our method reads the entire microbial DNA of a sample and can resolve organisms down to species level, allowing detailed identification of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.

The resulting reports provide structured insights into your microbiome diversity. These analyses are designed to support scientific understanding of the gut microbiome and provide individuals and professionals with a deeper view of the microbial communities that inhabit the human intestine.

Beyond sequencing, we are developing a capsule-based fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) platform designed to restore disrupted microbial ecosystems.

FMT involves the transfer of a complete microbial community from a screened healthy donor to a recipient. Unlike probiotic approaches that introduce only a limited number of strains, FMT replaces the entire microbial ecosystem and has demonstrated significant therapeutic potential in clinical research.
